Verso T180 2.2d - Unknown Fluid Leaking (see Photo)

Hi all,

We bought a 57 plate Verso last week. Its all working fine and its a really nice car. The MPG is a little under what we thought... anyhow... I noticed a patch of leaking oil on the floor this morning under the engine.

On closer inspection it appears not to be engine oil as it is nearly clear. Ive dabbed got some on a piece of paper, Ive smelt it and its odorless but feels oily to touch.

On the paper I've also compared it to the engine oil, power steering fluid and brake fluid. It looks just like brake fluid, but after a dab on my tongue it is definitely not brake fluid when compared. (yes i know probably a stupid idea)

It had the Air-Con re-gassed before we bought it, but that i know sometimes causes water through evaporation but this is definitely oil based.

Does the Verso have a separate gearbox oil? Would this be dark coloured like the engine oil? Could it be this?

Are there any other fluids that it could be? Clutch?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The Avensis has separate gearbox oil so I imagine that the Verso does too.

Thanks,

Would that oil from gearbox be clear as sunflower oil? Wouldn't it be darker like the engine oil?

Is coolant slightly oily?
