T27 Avensis Egr Valve Cleaning (177 Bhp Dcat)

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any experience cleaning a T27 Avensis EGR Valve? I've just passed 80000 miles and think it's time it should be done as I'm getting a few dead spots at low revs when the car is warm. I've done one before in my 2005 2.0 Avensis with great success, however the one on my T27 is a flat Denso type and doesn't seem to be as servicable as the 2005 version.

I've checked the 'how to' in the Auris section and while the engine & pipework leading up to the EGR are very similar the EGR itself seems to be completely different.

Anyone run into any problems with one of these before I take the plunge??

I Did the EGR on my T27 177 T-Spirit, EGR itself was quite clean but their is a small alloy block between the EGR & Manifold which was rather blocked and also where the alloy block bolts onto the Manifold.

We had to remove the EGR and alloy block as one piece because one of the bolts was not undoing, once off we found out the end of the bolt was caked in soot, cleaned the end of the bolt and was then able to separate the EGR and little block.

Gave the EGR and small block a good clean then did the same with the port on the Manifold, while cleaning the port on the manifopld i had the hover right in there to stop any carbon falling into the manifold & engine.

I've cleaned out my 2009 T7 2.2 EGR a couple of times - normally once every oil change. Mine came away very easily. I found it easier to remove the metal pipe first, and then the EGR valve. I've reused the metal gaskets twice, also without incident... they seem very sturdy.

Took the plunge at the weekend and cleaned the EGR valve while I was changing my fuel & air filters. I think I may have caught the EGR valve just in time as there was so much carbon build up there was literally no space at the exhaust manifold for gases to pass through. I now wish I had taken photos as it was a fairly simple process and I'll make a point of doing it at each service.

After a thorough cleaning of the EGR valve, the connecting block and the ports on the manifold the difference is unbelievable, the car is much quiter at idle with smoother power delivery and now even more responsive through gear changes which can be seen on the Rev counter. All this and my MPG seems to have improved as well.

Definitley well worth the effort.

Hi,

I have the same T27 2.2 DCAT engine. For couple weeks now I feel this hesitation around 1400rpm while cruising in a steady speed or starting to drive (roundabouts or crossings are a nightmare).

I wonder if this could be caused by a dirt EGR?
I took the car to Toyota (Jemca) but they said all was fine and didn't noticed errors or even the symptoms :( (I wonder if they only test-drive at full speed)
Could you point me the steps to clean the EGR?
