Yaris Hybrid Fuel Consumption

I have to say I'm impressed with the fuel economy with this car. I'm still in the habit of filling up once a week like I've always had to do with every other small petrol hatchback we've owned. Shell unleaded yesterday 107.9 pence per litre I managed to force £22 in the tank. Looks like from now on I'll only need to fill up once a fortnight.

Very happy Bunny here !!! 👯🐇

Could be an interesting thread!

After 150 miles I'm averaging 55 MPG according to the trip computer, but waiting until I fill up to calculate the actual. Car now has ~620 miles on it at the moment.

How does it calculate range? Average MPG * sensed fuel remaining?

Hey,

Normally I'm at 55-60mpg on my daily commute.. This weekend I've had the worst consumption yet driving with 5 people in the car (Combined weight of I'd guess 350kg) plus a full trunk, and driving only on highway at +65mph in the rain and with the aircon on (to remove moist).. 38mpg according to logs from Torque App.

The highway seems to be pretty bad for the Yaris economy... Also with a full car it does sound a bit like a scooter when going up hills at high speeds ;)

I think in the circumstances you describe that the statement "The highway seems to be pretty bad for the Yaris economy..." is grossly misleading. It's obvious in your case, that what has caused the poor consumption is the combination of excessive weight and the weather conditions! This would equally apply negatively to any normally aspirated car's consumption; whether petrol or diesel. (Never mind the fact that you are driving a Hybrid...)

Couldn't agree more to be honest!

Hey,

I agree as well.. Perhaps I just didn't really notice in my old Yaris... :)

Actually I had another of those drives in sh*t weather and with 5 people in the car (one of them a small one though) and a full trunk.. And rain, and wind, and was all the way down there again..

I guess it doesn't help that the speed limit is 80mph in DK.

I think weight does affect HSDs with smaller engines more than some other cars as the baseline torque isn't high enough to keep the car going at low RPMs. As long as the Battery has a good charge it's not normally a problem tho', and the ones with 1.8's tend to do better too.

After 420 miles, my last tank averaged 60 MPG. Very happy! :D

One thing to remember with these high MPG figures is that it is easy to affect them, as the more efficiently you drive, the more critical fluctuations become in fuel consumption (a small increase represents a greater percentage of the total).

It's always a good idea to carry as little as possible if maximum economy is the goal. Any weight you add requires energy to haul it around - it's basic physics.

Yeah, as you go over 60mpg, trivial things start making a bigger difference!

Things like aerodynamics, accelerating and coasting, tyre pressures, weight, which way the wind is blowing etc

I do love that I can drive my D4D without trying to be economical (Full blast launches off the lights, flooring the accelerator during overtakes etc.) and still average low-60's mpg 'tho
