A DVLA service which may be useful to anyone wishing to check the MOT history of a vehicle - https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Note: website address changed to that above, presumably as part of the continuing testing of the beta service

How legit is that link Frosty?

The official links for that stuff are:

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status

https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax

I had a look at the one you posted and I'm a bit suspicious as, while it looks like a gov.uk site and has lifted all the graphics and style sheets from a gov.uk site, the security certificate is NOT one of the ones normally used by uk government websites and is registered to a company called Kainos in Belfast.

That said, it looks like Kainos do this sort of work for the government so it's likely it is legit and I'm just being paranoid

It is legit. Government Departments don't have the IT expertise to develop their own computer systems or websites, so it is common, and has been for a number of years, to put this work out to tender and contract.

Examples:

1. I worked for a Government Department on procurement, and a secure online tendering, tender evaluation and contract award service we used was developed and owned by QineteQ, and was used under licence from QinetiQ.

2. the development and management of the Jobcentre Plus Universal Jobmatch (the website that customers use to search for vacancies, etc) was contracted out to Monster.co.uk in 2012 and runs until 2016.

3. HP are contracted to manage the DWP IT system (hardware and software), and supply all of the desktops, laptops, printers, etc.

Kainos are one of the companies that the UK Government have contracted with to develop and manage online services for a number of Departments. See: https://www.kainos.com/our-work/digital-services/

Aside from that the link I gave is for the Beta service (which is currently undergoing an evaluation period), and the link in the second post - https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history-vehicle - states the service is unavailable (presumably because of the Beta site).

Beta history still out of action :(

Is dvla trying to decommissioned quietly?

I can t check mot history for a friend :( :( :(

>>>

Check the MOT history of a vehicle

You can’t check the MOT history of a vehicle. The service is currently unavailable.

You can still check to see if a vehicle has a current MOT.>>>

The Beta service (as in post 1) is working - I've just checked one of our previous vehicles - https://mot-history.net/

The 'old' site isn't working, as in post 2 - presumably because that has been replaced by the Beta service

Yep, I heard he was a consultant for WikiLeaks. He as much as admitted he was ex-MoD P.E. the other week. Knows how to interrogate them government mainframes.
