Periodic Lack Or Torque, 2005 Avensis With 2.0 Diesel. - Please Help

Imagine this:

You start or shift gear, usually at low/no speed, then:

Engine is barely able to accelerate, (just imagine you got a 9hp engine instead of 115hp) -

Anything you do with the throttle pedal between 10...100% throttle makes no difference, a darker exhaust can be seen.

you can floor it ... after maybe 3..10 seconds, the engine will rev up normally, spinning tires, normal acceleration for all next gears.

or..

you can press in the clutch - it will still accelerate very slowly, and even when it reach high RPM, it does not mean there is and torque to get from it.

.. then the problem goes away for another 1...30Km or even weeks.

no error codes (checked by Toyota mechanics, who suggested , and replaced diesel filter - needless to say - it did not help.)

Never, any strange sourcs from the engine - not during nor after the problem.

The problem gets, and disapeears very fast, there is no slow transition.

Otherwise, when the perioding problem is not there, the engine performs exactly as expected, and I know, because this is about my wife's station wagon, while I have the executve hatchback with the same engine.

Thank you very much.

It sounds like a very good tip - symptoms and cause (sticking) makes sense.

Hope it's not too buried in that 2005 model, will try clean it this weekend.

it should be exactly the same, my symptoms were. black smoke on acceleration, limp mode (no boost) when car was at fully temp, wouldn't kick until like 2.5k revs. no engine management light on.

Thank you all.

It's now long time since I did clean the EGR, and the engine worked as expected since - so that was it.
