2006 Hilux D4D 2.5 Hl3 Injector Problems

Hi all - new to this site and seriously need to pick your brains and ask for advice!

My beloved Hilux (9 years old now, only 80,000 on the clock) had it's major 80,000 mile service and 'injector problems' was one of the things picked up (full Toyota service history), which I found very strange and NOT what I would expect with an 'iconic' Hilux, particularly my one as it really hasn't done a lot of work in it's life and been very well cared for ... So, I decided to do a bit of research online and it turns out that this 'injector' problem is a bit more widespread and a known problem with Toyota ... Something to do with faulty copper seals between 2006 and 2008, not only Hilux's but Landcruisers also ... Problem rectified after 2008 models with new injectors with aluminium seals ... I will be taking this up with Toyota HQ as really I feel it should have been a recall, across Europe there have been dealerships that 'out of goodwill' have replaced, but some, like my local dealership that know of the problem but just shun it off, telling me that by the end of a Hilux's 60,000 mile warranty 'it's done it's job, hasn't it?' - No, not really! So, before I head off to take this up with Toyota HQ, I wondered if any of you had suffered the same problem and what you did to resolve it ... Thanks loads in advance!

Unless the issue is safety related, which this doesn't seem to be, there is little likelihood of a recall happening.

I believe you are referring to a recognised issue that affected the 3.0 1KD engine where Toyota did call back ( not a recall as DVSA deemed it not safety related ) cars under a Customer satisfaction campaign for new injector seals this did not affect the 2.5 2KD engine as it was built in a different factory using parts from a different supplier.

Goodwill is considered but only up to 5 years so your 2006 truck is 4 years beyond any consideration.

What is the actual fault diagnosed?

Yep the Hilux `Injector` issue only affected the 3.0d 2007 models, the OPs will have a different injector problem

One of the dangers of searching the internet, putting 2 and 2 together and making 6

It would be a good idea to spend some time actually investigating the fault rather than assuming what might be wrong based on an internet search.

Very many things can cause problems with high pressure fuel injectors these days, I would spend some time at a specialist fuel injection company or your dealer to see what the actual fault is.

Manufactures only put out product recalls for safety related problems, and will then go through the "Recall" process with the DVSA. They will sometimes issue SSC's, (Special Service Campaigns) which puts things right when the manufacturer thinks they could have done better with the product, such as the injector seals situation

My Hilux is currently under 'diagnosis' to find out what the problem with the injectors is, thank you all for your replies, much appreciated.
