Can't Find Master Brake Cylinder For Corolla 1996 Ee101

Hello all.

I've been meaning to fix my beloved red corolla - my first car, and that of my siblings too. But the brakes have gone, and mechanic advised me to get a new brake master cylinder. Problem is, when we search for it, what we get is a brake master cylinder that has a 3-screw mount. BUT, the one that is fitted currently is a 2-screw mount, so I'm stuck and have no idea.

Here is a sample of what I find when I search online: http://images.gasgoo.com/MiMgIzk4MTgzOTIwMA--/auto-part-toyota-corolla-ae101-ee101-brake-master-cylinder-47201-12680.jpg

I'm attaching pics of my car so you can all see. Need to find a good replacement that fits! Please, and thank you very much.

Seems there are some 2 screw mounts around, but you need to check for your exact model, you don't mention the engine type petrol / diesel / cc - that site shown several pages of matching models, but there are others seeming to sell the same part.

Looking on the big name parts dealers they all come up with the 3 screw type as you say, so might be worth checking the price /part with your local Toyota dealer, they might have some service update on the part ...?

Try your Toyota dealer? Its either:

47201-12890

or

47201-1A010 with ABS

and you will need 1x 47275-12020 the gasket between the master cylinder and the Servo.

Or if you want to reuse the original cylinder Toyota offer a repair kit:

04493-10130

or

04493-12180 with ABS

I can see the issue. The left hand drive version of the master cylinder are three hole mount, whilst the right hand drive are two holes. Some of the motor factors make the mistake of buying in from Europe as the parts are cheaper, but then you get the left hand drive version.

Yet the part numbers seem to be the same for both!

You did the right thing in checking the pictures, because you are saving a lot of time by not ordering the "wrong" part. Yes this will be a main dealer part.

The kit option is cheaper, but it depends on the cylinder bore not being worn.

The Mk1 Avensis pollen filter is another case of "handed" part. Not as serious as yours but annoying.

Sometimes I wish we all drove on the same side.

Thank you all for your kind replies, really appreciated. I had this project parked for a while (no pun intended), but now resuming to completion.  I found this on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PMF713-TRW-OE-QUALITY-BRAKE-MASTER-CYLINDER-/302190609881?fromMakeTrack=true#shpCntId

It looks exactly like it. If it looks the same, should I just go for it? Couldn't find 4E-FE 1.3 hatchback listed though.  I've asked the seller and await response.

Hi Lee,

This is very good info, but do you know of a way I can tell if mine's has ABS or not? The Battery is completely flat at the moment so can't turn it on to see if there's an ABS light.

The easiest ways to tell without power are:

1.  Are there speed sensors on each wheel

2. Is there an ABS actuator ( follow the pipes away from the master cylinder forward to the Actuator )

Hi Umar,
To be sure if you do or do not have ABS, take more photos around the engine bay and post.

You mention there is an ABS light. Can I assume it lights on the first turn of key before going out? If so, then yes, you have ABS.

Here is a link confirming the parts which is similar to what Lee had post earlier :-

http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/eu/1994/corolla-hb-lb/ee101r-ahmdkw/3_153530_042_/powertrain-chassis/4702_brake-master-cylinder#47201

After studying your earlier photos and diagrams that I have looked at, plus Lee's which are basically the same, I don't think you have ABS because, the front pipe goes from the master cylinder straight to the first distributor. Then one pipe goes from that distributor to the front of car and wheel, the other goes to a second distributor/proportioning valve.

Lee's diagram showing the braking system without ABS confirms this, but still submit some photos.
