Removal Of Rear Light Unit - Carina E 1.8I Hatchback 1997

Need to change the stop light on the rear near side of the above motor. It is not possible to access the light unit from inside the boot due to the extensive internal trim. To remove the rear light unit is difficult. There are two bolts to undo at the rear, but having removed the bolts, the unit will not budge.

Help please. Haines and the owner's handbook are useless and do not want to break the unit. Many thanks in anticipation.
