1999 Inermittent LED display

So, my partner just had her clutch replaced on her '99 Yaris, all good, however, the next day she went to use it, the LED display started to flicker.

 

It seemed to be linked to the headlights, turning them off and it worked OK.  But as soon as she switched on the headlights, the dash would flicker, and occasionally totally turn off.

 

As you might imagine, judging the speed isn't easy for a new driver with no speedometer....

 

Has anyone any idea what may be causing this?

 

I personally suspect a loose/dodgey earth cable, but haven't had a chance to take a look as I work during the day, and get back when it's too dark to go look.....
