Hello

sorry for my english  which is not my mother tongue.

Since 2003 I own a  Avensis D4D II 115. A car with no problem until this week. It now has 118000 miles

my problem: when driving at low speed the steering wheel moves from left to right a few degrees. This problem appeared suddenly. So I put the car on stands and engaged the first speed,

What do you think ??

another weird thing,  the left side rotates faster than the right side (at least 2X)

thanks for your help

Hi

The noise on the video is the brake discs rattling against the wheel hub. There's nothing wrong.

It's normal for one driveshaft to rotate faster than the other. This is due to slight differences in the brake calipers and pads. Nothing to worry about.

Can you describe the problem with the steering wheel. Does the car drift to one side when driving? Is the steering wheel vibrating left and right while driving?

I agree, particularly as there are no front wheels on, there's nothing holding the discs to the drive flanges, so they will rattle. Please could you describe in more detail what happened, including how fast you were travelling, what gear, how much throttle, and any other conditions you think of, any noises etc.

hello

thank you for your reply

You were right : I replaced the screws (without the wheels) and no more noise :-)

yes the steering wheel vibrates left and right while driving if I do not hold it , just few degrees on both sides and whatever the gear/throttle.

I made a simulation

But I have good news : this morning I noticed something on the right wheel , can you spot it  (sorry I do not know the English word of this thing)?

a closer look

So I drove with the spare wheel on the right side and no more vibration.

I will have the wheel balanced tomorrow.

Thank you for your help and  interest.

hi,

I have had experience of this on the Autobahn, where all of a sudden, it started to behave like this. I took it to a garage and explained to the mechanic and without looking he said, your tyres are shot. They are not balanced and even though they have tread left on them, they have little bumps which are not readily evident to the naked eye. So I did as suggested and changed my tyres and Voila. No more Mad steering. So if balancing doesnt sort it, replacing the rubber will.

Regards,

Waqar
