Hello all, my avensis 04 petrol put the engine management light on last night, its showing po156 bank 2 sensor 2 and po133 bank 1 sensor 1. in the past 6 months I have noticed a hesitation between 800 rpm and 3000 rpm, the moment the rev counter hits the 3000 rpm acceleration is much more powerful and no hesitation.

Can anyone advise me on what I'll pay roughly for sensors and could they possibly cause that hesitation.

Hi

The sensors are sending false readings to the ECU and the air/fuel ratio goes off, so yes, the sensors are causing the hesitation.

I have had the same problem and changed the sensors fixed the hesitation.

I recomend direct fit DENSO sensors, they are original just without Toyota mark on them. They cost around 70.

I think quoting the faults isn`t enought.

I assume your engine is 2L petrol 1AZFSE. So bank1 sensor1 is 89465-05100 (Denso part number DOX-0204) and bank2 sensor2 is 89465-05130 (Denso number DOX-0288)

Ive the sensors fitted, do I need to get them programmed or will car recognise there fitted

No programming is needed.

I was going to post a new topic, then I saw this one. I have a 2003 Avensis SR 2.0 vvti. I'm no boy racer so I don't put my foot down hard, every time I set off. But it does seem a bit sluggish for a 2 litre. However, if I let the car rev to 3300 rpm, it suddenly surges as if it has a turbo. Would this be the same problem as above? If so, which lambda sensors are you talking about? Do I need to change them all? Thanks

Try cleaning the throttle body and maf sensor.also chuck a bottle of cataclean in and try that.do the basics 1st before spending money on a few sensors.

Hello all, that's my prob too pete, I renewed the two lambda sensors which were showing faults on the obd reader but I still have the hesitation.

How do i go about cleaning the throttle body Frank?

Just disconnect the hose going to and from it unbolt from engine bay remove any plugs.get some carb cleaner rags a old tooth brush and get cleaning both ends of it..also clean the pcv on top end of rocker cover.and the hoses going from pcv to throttle body.pcv (engine depending ) you should be able to unscrew it .Once out you should hear it rattle.if not try cleaning that with carb cleaner too.hope this helps.

hi all, replaced the po156 sensor in March (as above) and today engine management light came on and same fault, I used the denso sensor at 60 quid or thereabouts, is this a constant problem with avensis?
