Scratched windscreen

Yaris 15

Recommended Posts

I have a slight scratch on my 2015 Yaris Excel windscreen, I'm sure it must have been there when I got the car but only recently noticed it, as would be expected because I've had the car for about 5 months the dealer can't help as I've left it too long to tell them about it. I have found a company called Glasweld who specialize in removing scratches from windscreens etc & wondered if anyone has used them or know how good they are.

I don't know anything about Glassweld but I've heard of ppl having limited success with using a steel wool pad to clean the windscreen and get rid of minor scratches etc. It wouldn't do any harm to try it.

I'd suggest that's far too harsh. I've scratched my screen with much less abrasive materials. Jeweller's rouge has been recommended before, but I've never tried it.

'Claying' can produce good results on glass I believe, though obviously depends on the depth of scratch.

I've not used it but "Bilt Hamber autoclay regular" has been recommended and I think Halfords stocks it. (It's normally used for polishing paintwork.)

Sharp edges of a scratch are usually raised, you can feel them with your fingernail. So long as you go across the scratch to remove the sharp edges it works OK.

Wayne 2015 did it on his Auris quite successfully.
