hi gents. please is there any way i can update sat-nav(B9017 GRACENOTE CDDB VERSION 1727) toyota dealer says it will cost £400 to£600 i hope there is a cheaper way. my rav4 a 2010 2.2D-CAT auto no usb installed in this car

Are you asking about a new system or just updating the mapping? As regards the mapping, the only legal way is through Toyota.

Your car is fitted with Toyota's HDD navigation which has two updates available :

Maps priced @ approx £160 for a licence to install the update and takes upto 2 hours to update via a Toyota dealer only tool

Gracenote is free and takes 10 minutes but still needs the special tool.

Most but not all dealers will have the tool ( it is not a compulsory tool & is expensive ) which is a blow moulded case containing a specially formatted Hard drive & connection cables onto which the latest maps & Gracenote info is copied from a set of DVD's ordered from Toyota, copying the updates onto the HDD needs special software & once the HDD is carrying the latest updates a Licence has to be transferred onto the HDD (this is the bit you have to purchase) with the licence on the HDD it is then plugged into the car and allows a single update to take place.

thanks lee. so this sat -nav is basically obsolete. due to cost, looks like i will have to have a stick on tom-tom, or source a replacement that will fit into  the original sat-nav space. i will have to do more research. any suggestions will be a great help.       thanks for your reply  alanp
