Sticky 4th gear

this  is a tuition car 1.4 diesel 09 plate,60,000 miles and the 4th gear sticks when selected in the first instance but goes in with a second pull.all the other gears are fine..........any ideas?

My first thought is to check the gear linkage for an obstruction both at the gearbox itself and close to the gear lever which will require the centre console to be lifted clear to reveal where the gear lever moves the cables back and forth.
