Looking to buy a toyota corolla 1997-2005

My civic 97 has bad head gasket and engine block , so Im in the market looking for a used car. I known that the corollas are reliable , but I have read that there have been problems with some years. The problem had to do with burning oil consumption problems with the 1998-2002 models. I don't know about the problems that the 2003-2005 models may have or the 1993-1997 models.
I'm currently have a budget of $3,000.00 and I wanted to see which is the best gen and year in terms of reliability for a used corolla?? Which one do you guys recommend and how does it compare to the civics of 1996-2000? Thanks.

If you search this forum  there are some quiet specific details of which  engines /years  may turn out to be oil burners, 

Cannot remember there location, but within the last 12 months.

Almost certain it included models to 2004 and think it may cover 2005 as well.

For reliability would have to say go for the 2006/7 late models.

You say $3000  ?  or do you mean Pounds or Euros ?  -
