Hi all,

In the attached photo you can see there are two buttons with a + and -.

These buttons are behind the steering wheel.

Can anyone describe what they are for?

The buttons are found in semi-automatic car.

To select a different gear manually .......

+ for upward changes, - for downward changes

Hi, if you have a Hybrid they increase + or decrease - braking effect from light to hard when you lift your foot off the accelerator. On semi auto they manually change gears up and down.

the paddle shift on a cvt lets you jump to a different ratio which gives you the sense of it being sporty

, it can be used to help keep your speed down if going downhill this gives you the feeling of engine braking.

On a CVT changing the 'Ratio' is tantamount to changing gear.:bangin:

maybe so ....but technically a cvt doesn't have gears to change ,bar 1 forward and reverse it just has an infinate amount of ratios.

if you have gears you physically have to move the gears to select the next ratio to drive in with cvt you dont.:bangin:

Frostyballs, It is.

No ! - the OP's car isn't a hybrid. It is a 1.6 VVTi with Multi Mode Transmission.

The OP's car uses a Multi Mode Transmission (MMT), not a CVT.

It's what Clarkson called a "flappy paddle gear box", before the producer took a fist to his eye.
