What does the fuel gauge drop quickly ?

Hello I have a Toyota Corolla 2005 CE and the fuel gauge go from more than 1/2 tank to less then 1/4 in a matter of days traveling less than 100KM ? Could it be the sending unit or something else ? All possibilities would be appreciated ?

The calibration of my 2006 Corolla seems to be crap too. The first half tank will get me 300+ miles, the second will only get me around 200 miles. Could simply be that?

Fuel gauges on Toyotas do seem to operate in a non-linear way. Some use a bar type gauge and an example of how these operate is -
