Verso 2.2 losing coolant

Hi have just noticed that my verso is losing water through its expansion bottle. I know the 2.2 has a head gasket problem. Have taken the plastic cover off the head and there are no pink marks on the inside. Have also checked the Water and it is showing no signs.

When I switch the air con on the fans kick in so they is life in them.

However I checked earlier when the engine was warm with the air con off and they didn't kick in while I watched for about 15 minutes.

Could this be a faulty sensor or the dreaded head gasket?

The heating still works.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's also possible that the water pump may be weeping - tbh that's probably a more common issue than hg failure.

Does it mean that the Water pump needs to be replaced?

Thanks

If that is the fault & you are aware of it, keep an eye on the coolant & top it up as needed you can probably live with it - of course it depends upon just how much it is losing. On my previous 57 plate 2.2 Avensis I lived with it for ~1 year with it being replaced foc under warranty just before I sold the car.

How many miles on your car?

It has just over 70,000 on the clock. The water pump was changed just over a year ago by a Toyota specialist.

I do a lot of short trips work and back mostly.

Had to go out of town on Saturday night, a 100 mile round trip. Following morning I had to top up with a litre of water. It's not dropped excessively in the last couple of days.

On inspection there is a lot of white residue on the back of the fan area presumably from the antifreeze.

Thanks

Can anyone recommend a Toyota specialist in or close to Birmingham?
