Is it reading the disc at all? can you hear the floppy drive kick in at any point?

Have you changed your BIOS so it reads from the HDD before the floppy?

If its reading from the HDD first it'll always load windows because that is what the computer has been told to do. Change that so it reads from the floppy & the startup disc kicks in

Hey Ryan,

When you switch your computer on it will say on the screen (just for a few seconds) to press del to enter BIOS setup. On some systems you press F2 instead but its more commonly del.

You will get loads of options. Look for a menu that says 'boot order'. Make sure that the first one selected is your FDD!.

that will cause it to boot from the floppy before running windows.

or ESC or F1, depends on the PC

or F8 (to change boot sequence on the fly)

there is another option depending on how bad your PC is knackered.

1. allow PC to boot normally

2. insert your windows 98 disk

3. should start to auto boot

4. when promted click on "repair" and let the PC do the rest

may solve the problem may not.

Also i done wot u sed Moxy and it has started 2 do wot it is meant 2!

In my booklet it says: Performing a new installation

1. insert a Windows '98 startup disk in the floppy drive (done)

2. restart ur computer.

The microsoft windows startup menu appears (done)

3. insert the windows '98 cd into ur CD-ROM drive (done)

4. type the number 1 and then press enter

a series of scans are performed and then the MS-DOS prompt appears (done)

5. at the MS-DOS prompt type the word setup and then press enter

a message informs u that setup is goin to perfrom a check (doesn't happen)

It also says: if this message does not appear your comp can't locate your CD-ROM drive!

Any help much appreciated, cheers

My god  Do yourself a favour, once you get on the net download WindowsXP.

Or even better if you already got it on another machine you must have a CD-ROM somewhere, install it from that.
