Toyota Avensis Verso rear number plate bulb

Why, oh why, do car manufacturers not make the simple things easy.

2002 Toyota rear number plate bulb has blown.

How on earth do you get the outside plastic cover off to replace the bulb.  It can't be an inside job surely....taking off the trim on the inside of the hatchback door to get at the bulb.  Surely the plastic cover should snap off in some way??

Had a look on the part Toyo pictures and it does suggest that the plastic light cover comes away from the outside but short of breaking it I can't see how it connects in.

Anyone been here before or on a similar car?  Normal Avensis seems different.....maybe a Corolla Verso is similar.

Any help and suggestions greatly received!!

On the Avensis Estate there is a trim panel on the inside of the tailgate that pops out 5 min job. With luck the Verso is the same

Had a look inside and there are some trim panels but none of them seem to match up to where the number plate lights are on the outside.

Will have another look and maybe just take the internal trim off.

Thanks

Reading Toyota's repair manual the inner boot trims have to come off, you could just use your local Toyota dealer buy the bulbs from them and they free fit them.
