Hi i recently purchased a 2006 rav4 t180 with the keyless entry and push button start but unfortunately it has only one fob (2 button silver in colour apparently it is part number b51ea)

Ii have found one on eBay which is key uncut and never been programmed from abroad but i need to know a way of programming it to the existing car.

is there anyone that knows of how to do it or is it main dealer or specialist key programming required and also if it is at all possible

cheers in advance for any help

I have used this method for a 2006 RAV4 which did not have keyless entry you maybe able to work it out, but I'm sure you can find the info on here or the net...

Before you start all doors should be closed except the driver's side door which should be open and unlocked. Each step in this Toyota Key Fob programming instructions guide should be completed in order.

Instructions:

1. With the driver side door unlocked and open slide the key in and out of the ignition twice without turning it. (Should be done within 5 seconds)

2. Close the driver side door and then reopen it, and then close and reopen it again.

3. Put your key in the ignition again and remove it.

4. Close the driver side door and then reopen it, and then close and reopen it again.

5. Put the key in the ignition and then close the door.

6. Turn the key to the "On" position without cranking the car and then turn it back to the "Off" position and remove the key.

***If you are only adding an additional key fob to the vehicle turn the key to "On" position only once. If you are "Rewriting All Key Fobs" and clearing the memory, turn the key to "On" position twice and then remove the key.

7. You should have heard the door locks cycle after you removed the key. This means the vehicle is in program mode.

** If the door locks did not cycle you will need to repeat steps 1-6 again, you should completed step 1 within 5 seconds.

8. To program the new Toyota Key fob hold the "Unlock" and "Lock" button on the key fob for two seconds and then release. Then press the "Lock" button for up to three seconds and release. The door should lock and unlock.

If you are programming multiple remotes repeat step 8 for each remote within 40 seconds of step 7. If you wait too long or the other keyless remotes will not program you will need to start from the beginning.

You have now reprogrammed the Toyota Key fob to your vehicle. You may program up to 4 keyless entry remote control fobs per vehicle.

Thanks for your reply on this. I had seen a similar method on youtube. it appears that mine may need a dealer or specialised auto key expert to re programme i have since found out :-(

For those who live in Manchester here is a professional locksmith who does keyless entry fob

http://www.autolocksmithstockport.co.uk

It cost me £230 all in, the fob itself was around £190 original Tokai Rika model. They had to order the fob and arranged fitting a week later. The guy came in a van to my work place, took him about 30 minutes to programm it, he also removed any unused or lost keys from the car's memory and the job was done. I know the price is high but I got my self original Toyota fob provided by a trusted professional.

I think the answer is that it depends on which chip is used in the fob - my 2005 model uses the one which requires the Toyota Techstream software, not the hokey-cokey method.  I bought the software and interface on-line, and did the job in minutes, and saved quite a bit compared with paying Mr T. (Plus I now have the kit for performing diagnostics)

I got my fob from http://www.car-keys-online.com/.  They know which type from your VIN.
