If both the feed and return pipes of the matrix are hot then it may not be blocked but do a reverse flush anyway, this will involve removing the pipes which isn't very easy, but I would try that before deciding to change the matrix because that definitely isn't easy!

Thanks guys! Due to the mysterious bubbles...  I flushed the whole cooling system and matrix, it was absolutely disgusting! Just like brown sludge. The heater blowers are working great again now. Just going to keep and eye on my coolant levels as I'm convinced I have a slight leak from somewhere. I hope not as I got the coolant from Toyota and it wasn't exactly cheap but it's good stuff!

What did it smell like? I'm curious to know whether screen wash or Fairy liquid was put in to your coolant.
