Supposedly blue number plate bulbs

I bought these Osram "Intense Blue" bulbs for the numberplate of my T25 Avensis but when I fit them they just turn out as the regular yellowy colour.

Was I to adapt them in some way, is it the fact that I bought estate ones instead of saloon ones?

The light is fine.......it's just not blue!

Unlike LED bulbs, these low power tungsten bulbs will never emit a really blue light. More like a pinkish light! The blue filter mixed with the orange/red light = pink.

Here is a video (non-english) that compares the Osram bulb with standard version -

The result is as I said - pinkish shade of white. Also consider the legal aspect for exterior uses!

Hope this helps.

That's great thank you!

So are there any plug and play LED lights I could get for it? That's what I wanted at the outset but I'm a bit clueless. Am I looking CANBUS?  (whatever that means)

unless the unit was certificated for use with LEDs then using LEDs in it on road is illegal should you be caught.

There was also at least 1 report of an insurance company turning down a claim when they discovered that a car's no. plate lights had been replaced with LED.

Thank you.

But is there a way of buying LEDs without installing adaptors, etc? Like the type of lights you see on numberplates of new Audis/BMW/Mercs? Are they CANBUS?

Yes, you can install LEDs without adapters as long as you are willing to accept that they aren't road legal & you may void your insurance cover.
