Toyota Avensis 2001 GS Alarm Problem

Hi all,

Recently bought a 2001 Toyota Avensis and love it....until I broke the only key I have. :(

Long story cut short...spilt tea on key, lock and unlock buttons don't work, alarm won't disable, goes off every time you open the door, angry neighbors, nobody seems to know how you can deactivate it with just the key manually, Toyota want £170 for a new key which I just haven't got as the second.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Surely there must be away of deactivating it?

Thanks,

Ed

Welcome Edward.

I have seen your other post:

The good news is you can unplug the alarm sounder and also there is a Haynes manual which covers your car. The sounder is located in the front bumper close to the windscreen reservoir. Also £170 is cheap in the scheme of things, I have been quoted £1000 when i lost my keys, but luckily got them back!

Yes not everyone has £170 which can be a lot at this time of year and to the cars worth, but at least you have a working key.

On the subject of car keys and making sure all keys are safe, I have always made sure I bought a car with all available keys, which is the case of the my old and current Avensis. My brother bought a Nissan Micra (key-less entry) with only one key, for his wife. I made her get a second key, which was handy when my brother put his coat (key in coat pocket) in the boot and the car locked itself. He had to call the wife with the new spare to come and rescue him! Lesson learned.

I don't need to say anything, if you lost your only key!

They spare key for my car is somewhere secure where I know where it is. I alternate them so that wear and tear is spread between them. Worked well for my old '98 Mk1. Also both cars also have a third grey valet key, so both cars had three keys. This is why I am fussy about having all keys with a car, and it tells me about who owned the cars before, if they were as careful with the keys. Had a friend whose van was stolen with the missing key - he bought the van with only one key!

I hope you get sorted.
