Whining

Good morning all,

I have an ICON 1.2T (2 months old).

When audio is off & windows are up, I note some sort of faint whining noise while car is cruising. Can be heard better when gear is in 'neutral' position.

Is it normal? Normal road (tire) noise perhaps?

Not normal. The Auris is very quiet, I don't detect any wind noise, even at higher speed. Try to seal your windscreen with masking tape around the edges, and go for a ride. If the noise dissapears, your windscreen needs to be refitted.

Hi Nielshm,

It definitely isn't wind noise.

Its more like the sound coming from tire revolutions.

Can it be normal 'road noise'?

Would you check yours for me? :)

Try speeding up to 50kms/h, windows up, no audio on & tell me what you hear.

Thanks :)

I don't hear anything unusually. From the factory the car is fitted with Continental Eco Contact, and they are very quiet. My car has done 16.000 miles.

Could it be a broken wheel bearing? They can be pretty noisy, if that is the case.

Hi Folks,

I have the same issue. Anything over 50 mph and you get the 'whining' noise. The car was a few months old and the local dealer took it for two days to check - did over 300 miles to test. The conclusion is it is road noise!

They said there is nothing you can do. If we drive anywhere on motorways - I have radio on or turn the air con up.

Not good - but apparently its 'normal'.

If however anyone knows how to address it - I would really welcome your views?

Keith

I contacted Toyota, there weren't interested as they knew noting about it!
