FM reception

Hello to all.

I have an annoying issue that I can't seem to find an answer for I have looked on a few forum sites and Google search I even asked Toyota who were no help at all.

I have a 2009 IQ with the normal radio about 4 weeks ago I completely lost radio reception and it will not tune to any station i just get background noise I'm guessing the radio head unit has a fault in in but I've also heard that the IQ has an amplified antena can anyone point me in the right direction please.

I've had a look at the service manual and it seems there is an amplifier- but it's built in to the base of the aerial on the roof.

To get to it I think you'll have to remove the headlining, and I believe this risks setting off the airbags so make sure the ignition is off for at least 90 seconds before attempting!

 

In the fault-finding section it says: 

3.CHECK ANTENNA FOR NOISE PRODUCTION

1. With the ignition switch to ACC, turn on the radio and select the AM mode.

2. Remove the roof antenna pole sub-assembly.

3. Place the tip of a screwdriver on the antenna and check that noise is heard from the speaker.

    

   OK:

   Noise occurs.

    

    

4. Install the roof antenna pole sub-assembly.

 

NG	Go to step 4

OK
REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (Click here)

 

So basically, if you get noise when you put the screwdriver on the antenna base, then the aerial amplifier is fine. If you don't get the noise then step 4 is about checking the earth for the antenna:

 

4.CHECK INSTALLATION OF ANTENNA GROUND

1. Check that the antenna amplifier ground is securely fastened to the body.

   OK:

   Ground is securely fastened to body.

    

BUT- helpfully it doesn't tell you where the antenna earth points are......

So the noise occured shame about the attenna earth pionts I will remove the stereo at the weekend and also have a look above the roof lining.
