Head Upgrades on 1.6 Valvematic

So my little Auris is quite poorly, it's loosing pressure on cylinder 2 and needs some serious TLC. The garage doing the work are doing a wet pressure test first but believe (from the noise and feel of the car) it's a knackered exhaust valve therefore the head will need looking at. On the basis it's gonna cost a shed load of money to fix anyway is there any performance upgrades I can do on the head while it's off?

Any ideas what caused it?

Nope, started getting check engine light and after getting codes read, parts changed (plugs, coil packs) and injectors cleaned it left only a mechanical problem. Dry pressure test has shown a massive pressure drop on cylinder 2 and, as previously mentioned, mechanics believe it to be an exhaust valve problem but can't diagnose for sure till after the wet pressure test.

It's been a long time since I had an exhaust valve burn out (or, to be precise, two), and it wasn't on a Toyota, but TBH it wasn't such a terrible disaster. A couple of valves, springs,  cam followers, and in my case a lightly shaved head. Nothing that a good old-fashioned motor factor couldn't have taken care of.

Just hope you get it sorted.

Be taking mine out for a "Battery charge run" later.

Even the mechanic was surprised when I said it was a Toyota. Apparently I'm just that unlucky 😡
