Hi everyone and hopefully some advice please😁

Hi everyone, my name is John and I live in Glasgow Scotland, I just travelled down to Lincoln a few weeks ago to get my corolla verso t180 that has had the engine replaced under warranty by Toyota 5 years and 36000 miles ago. So hoped I would be trouble free. However my dpf light came on and went into limp mode😭. So I decided, as I am in the motor trade and know the trouble that they cause, to gut the dpf and get an emulator. And it just so happened at the same time I managed to come across a lindop bros tuning box second hand on eBay. So I fitted that at the same time as the emulator. So finally my question lol, after having fitted the tuning box and the emulator after gutting the dpf I find it was a bit more powerful but less than I expected from reviews I have read. So I put the jumper in to return the vehicle to standard. It was exactly the same without the box😖, does this mean the box is faulty? Or do you have to wait for the 100 miles on setting 5 for it to actually make any difference? I only want to know as I will be returning it obviously if anyone can confirm that my suspicions are correct. Thanx in advance for any advice anyone can give😊.

Do you have a link to the box you bought?

It could be that you reset the ECU when disconnecting the Battery, so it's in the process of relearning the parameters of the engine.

I didn't disconnect the Battery, but after I gutted the dpf I had to clear the faults then do a dpf reset, which tells the ecu that a new dpf has been fitted. I could connect the diagnostic tool my work has and look at live info I guess. Don't know what numbers I would be looking for though tbh. Thanx for reply, any further help would be appreciated.

Anyone got any other ideas? The box is from what I've read, one of the best there is, I believe a member called kingo sold them on here? Is there any possibility that the dpf emulator isn't allowing the tuning box to work ? Although I really don't think so, as they connect to totally different systems. I will be returning the item very soon if moving improves. Thanx.

Well I've decided to remove the tuning box and nothing has changed, but I am convinced I have a problem as its really lethargic mid-high revs. So I decided to get some live data through my works diagnostic computer, with shocking results, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong as surely the requested boost target and the actual are miles apart, but shouldn't be? Also the throttle sensor has me very confused don't know what it's doing?? FYI, car is making a whistling noise as I accelerate. Please help!! I thought these where meant to be reliable??? Don't know if it will let me post a video but I'm going to try.

After a bit of a Google I came across this post here, which is an older post on the forum which talks about acceleration issues with your car. You can read through it, but for brevity's sake, consider the following:

  • When was the fuel filter last changed
  • When was the air filter last changed
  • What is the service history of the vehicle? Aside from the engine change, had it been serviced regularly?

Diagnostics will only tell you so much, and really all that diagnostic shows in the video is variables that the computer is using. It doesn't tell you what's going on. It wouldn't be a bad idea - and would probably be quicker - if you took the car to either a diesel specialist or a Toyota specialist and let them have a look.

Thanks for reply, I have rebuilt a diesel engine before (vw pd 150) and its still running today almost 70000 miles later, so I do have knowledge about them, also when my knowledge runs out about them my work specialises in hackney cabs, well mechanically anyway, I have had one of them have a brief look at it and he is thinking boost leak as its lost power. I cant find it though, not through lack of trying, had all the under guards back off and someone revving engine to see if I could find anything, also used soapy water, found a minor leak at exhaust manifold, you can thank toyota dealer themselves for that as they would have bee the last ones near it. I will put it through my work properly for investigation, but so far, my old trusty vw is looking ever so tempting again. As this car has full service history!!!! with Toyota themselves up until 3 years ago, engine fitted just over 4 years ago. I will have a look at the stuff in your link and hopefully this will also help. I didny buy a new car and trave so far to get what i thought was a good one, to spend hours working on it, or a fortune haveing the manufacturer look at it, so if things dont pick up, its going bye bye. I will be gutted if this happens as i love the look and idea of the car and I need a 7 seater now, only reason for ditching my trusty bora, sorry if i'm sounding harsh but I hope you get how I'm feeling, cheers
