Hi I have a rav4 1996 which currently won't run :-(, it cranks but no start, got spark, getting fuel and has compression, yesterday I took off the crank case cover and found the power steering belt has been rubbing and melting a small amount of the cover and stripping a bit of the power steering belt and wrapping around behind the balancer and crank shift pulling, any ideas? Thanks in advance I'm slowly losing the plot with this car

Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your Rav4 Donna... from what you discribe you may need to check, or have someone check the timing belt and timing to the valve gear... perhaps the timing belt has slipped a few teeth?  I appreciate that with older Rav4's like ours it can be exspesive to involve the local Toyota main dealer.  However, I think you do have to acknowledge sometimes that you are getting out of your depth and just end up getting stressed.  I do have a local skilled mechanic who lives close to me who operates from a double garage at the rear of his house... I have not made use of his services but many local people do and at a fraction of the cost of the local main dealers.

Ask around, check local ad's and try and find someone like that who can help you.  Anyhow, I hope someone on this list can advise with better advice than mine for this older Rav4

If you lived closer, I would try and help directly by having a 'look see'.  Best of luck...
