Hi guys . As the title says my car will sometimes act as if it has got a dead Battery. The car is a manual diesel 2017 Rav4. Clutch pushed in turning the key will do nothing. Just the sound of a clicking noise and the engine wont turn at all. Only the display of the Toyota touch will go black upon turning the key and then it restarts. It can be repeated a second time in a row and the engine finally starts on the third try. Sometimes turning the key off and on will solve the problem. What could it be? I checked the Battery and the connections seem tight enough. Thanks in advance for your replies

As it'll be under the Toyota warranty, take it to the local dealer to look at.

As above - dealer.

Probably a duff starter solenoid or commutator.  As it's under warranty, the dealer will probably change the starter.

Took it to the dealer. Its not a documented problem. They said it could be the clutch switch that engages when you press on the pedal when you turn the key. That or the starter. They said to keep an eye on it and next time it does it to leave the key turned and play with the clutch pedal. I have to say the way the Toyota Touch screen swiches off and on and the screen on the dash its exactly how it behaves when you turn the key without pressing on the clutch pedal.

New observation.

Today I had the car in gear when i was parked. When i tried to start it up it did nothing. Left the key turned and when i disengaged the gear into neutral without letting the clutch go it immediately started. Ideas?

Is it possible that it is designed to start only in neutral?
