Hello, is it a common problem for a head gasket to go on a carina 2?

is there much work in trying to sort the problem?

Toyota has a well earned reputation for good service and robustness.

Head gaskets can go (on very old engines) and may go after several years of inactivity [barn find!!]

Running with no water/only tap water (corrosion in alloy head) won't help

.... tell us more of your particular problems.

Single cambelt pulley (4AF) is a simple enough job. Twincam (2x pulleys) more involved.

Just noticed.... you joined in 2010.... got your moneys worth - either way m8

Haha, no it's not for the 25th anniversary model. I bought a Windsor model with the HG gone.

Will you be fixing this yourself or are you looking for a good local garage recommended?

Hello mate, be certain that it is the head gasket as a very common fault on the Carina which looks like head gasket is the water pump, look in the water res. ans see if its frothy and gunky with signs of overflowing, take off the oil filler cap and look at it and inside the rocker cover, if the oil is clean and normal, it's not the gasket
