Had the wife's 2008 Yaris recharged and it doesn't feel ice cold at all. System has been checked for leaks but still not impressed whereas my avensis air on is icy cold. Any ideas anyone's?

If it's anything like the way the A/C works in my Aygo, the cold air comes in waves. Compressor switches on, wave of cold air, compressor switches off, wave of ambient temperature air. I've noticed that the period of time that the compressor is switched off, is longer than previous cars I've owned with A/C. Probably something to do with a compromise between providing cold air and fuel economy.

The side vents appear to blow colder than the central vent too.

If I hold the back of my hand against a side vent, when the compressor clicks on, then it becomes too cold to keep my hand there.

I find the AC in my Yaris is pretty lame unless the engine is doing (Pulling a number out of my proverbial) say, 1800rpm or more.

I have recently bought a Yaris 1.5 Hybrid and find the A/C brilliant, before i had a Aygo for six months but couldn't get on with the car but the A/C was good in that as well. Perhaps a software up date needed?
