Pulsing rev gage.

Hi,

I have been having a problem with the rev gage on my Toyota avensis for the past few months but haven't found anyone that can diagnose the problem yet. If any one has any advice, please do let me know.

After driving a fair distance when I stop my car (engine still running) my rev gage pulses. 

Does anyone one know why or what this is?

Possibly a bad earth.does it pulse while engine is ticking over?

Is it the rpm going up and down a little and the gauge responding to that ?

Mine does this sometimes, has been caused by egr needing a cleanout, also depends what make of diesel I put in it.

Cleaning throttle sorted mine out, in my next trip the ups and Downs started going smoother. Then the second trip it is steady. It also failed to start twice after cleaning throttle which is normal....
