Car not been used for six months but was fine before. Had RAC out and he says there is no fuel coming up. Also fuel gauge is not operating plenty of fuel in it. Could it be the relay?

Could be number of things , fuel pump , for gauge fuel tank sensor. Also the filler pipe where you fill up going to tank ,they have bad problem of blocking rusting  .

On a car of this age and little use you can probably afford to drop the tank, drain and clean it properly and you can clean the sender too!
