Clicking sound in neutral on Aygo 2?

Hello.

A few months ago, I bought a new 2017 Toyota Aygo with manual gearbox.

It now has almost 5.000 miles.

Since a few weeks, whenever I get in neutral, I can hear a loud clicking sound coming from the engine.

The noise is the same if the car is moving or not.

I tried using different fuels but that made no difference.

What could it be? Injection, chain tensioners...?

Thank you.

Regular or every now and again clicking? Every now and again, it may be the a/c compressor switching on and off. If it genuinely is coming from the engine, then take it to the dealer to check out.

Thank you for your answer, Fordulike!

It's regular. And it happens when the engine is cold or hot. If I am stopped at a red light in neutral, I hear it. If I go down a slope in freewheel (just for example), I hear it. And so on.

The A/C I am not sure because I do not have this option. The vent, you mean? I would always hear the sound, I think.

A friend of mine told me that clicking at low revs was normal due to the engine architecture (3-cylinder) but that's weird. And the sound is recent and increasing.

I need to put on winter tires soon, I will have it checked then.

Just been out in my 2016 Aygo. Air con off. Interior fan off. No loud clicking in neutral.

If you're concerned, book it into your dealer.
