Hi guys, I recently bought a celica vvti (140) gen7 2002 model, and I get a fair amount of white smoke, any ideas what that could be?

Also the lift kicks in at around 4/5k rpm but have read others come in at 6200, any ideas?

Thanks

Tommy

Welcome, Tommy..

White smoke is often indicative of coolant/water issues..eg head gasket..but you don't say when you get the smoke.?

As for "lift".?...I think you have been misinformed...there is no "lift" on a 140 Celica.....only the 190 has the "hooligan" factor..lol..and that does indeed kick in at 6200 rpm.

Generally great cars..and so enjoyable to drive....I had my Celica 140 for over 2 years and loved it..only comfort issues made me change to my current Estima.

Hey pal,

It's seems to smoke when it's cold, and when I clear her out,

As for the lift, that's strange as when I get to 4500rpm there is deffo a performance enhancement and you can hear the vvti kick in

Thanks

Maybe your "smoke" is simply normal cold start condensation.

I can only repeat...the 140 does NOT have lift...whatever you are feeling..it ain't the "lift" that a 190 provides...and that doesn't kick in until much higher in the rev range.

Yes, the 140 doesn't have lift. You need a VVTL-i engine to have the lift, which is 190. If you have VVTL-i on your engine, then it has lift.

How bad is the white smoke?

Check there's not too much oil may be overfilled causing white smoke but worse when underload ,
