:help:

Hi I want to fit new rear shock absorbers on to my landcruiser i see they unbolt at the bottom and i have new rubbers, but how do they undo at the top.

I see the front ones have a nut and are very accessiable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't say whether Landcruiser shocks are exacly the same as other models (ie MacPherson Strut type) but if they are, the shock and spring assembly must be removed from the mountings as one.

The top plate of the assembly will be bolted to the bodywork by three bolts (the front set I guess you will have found already) The rear ones may be hidden by some interior trim.

DO NOT slacken the centre bolt whilst the assembly is in the car!! This is very dangerous and may result in injury/damage to you and your vehicle.

Once you have the shock/spring assembly removed you must use a set of spring compressors BEFORE removing the end nut.

You will also need to disconnect some of the brake pipes so be prepared for this.

Good luck

You will probably find that the top fixing is inside the cabin. It may be under a rubber cap or under a piece of the trim. Just look underneath the car to see where the top of the shock absorber goes then find the other side. There will be a stud with either two flat spots or a hexagon that you put a suitable spanner on and lower down the stud a nut. Hold the stud, undo the nut, remove the lower fixing and the shocker should fall off.

its wise to crack the top nut slightly whilst on the car , otherwise you wont be able to get it off unless you have compressor windy tools or a big vice.

Thats true for macpherson struts but I think you'll find this is just a shocker(nowhere near the spring)

You have seprate shocker on the back of all landcrusers If you have a Amazon type the older ones have a removable plate which you remove with the shocker If you have a colorado the plate is welded in and you can have trouble getting to the top bolts !
