Hi there, was busy taking my front right alloy off (AGAIN), and i could get if off all because of one nut!!! its chewed because i did a little of this when tightening it too tight, and also the rest of the damage was done when trying to get it off??

any ideas? when i put the rachet head on to turn it off, it jus slides around when pressing hard!! i thought maybe get a new nut, fill the rachet head with alot super glue, pop over knacked nut on wheel, leave to dry, and try and get it off that way!!

hmmmmmmmmmmm

if its totally rounded off youll be needed to drill the bugger out

oh yeah

never use an air ratchet to do wheel nuts! yes every garage on the planet does so but its wrong!

the gun that runs on an air line when you see a garage tighten the nuts.

it over torques them

if you can get it out then do so and then get new nuts

You could always try hammering on a smaller socket but if its a tight and rounded as you say you will probably have to drill it out...

lol!! ok some good advice here people, i was thinking the worst, as in , il never ever get it off and either will the garage, and then i wont be able to fit a new tyre etc so my car will be useless, lol!

thing is i just bought these nuts 2month ago, £24 for 16!! brand new!! think it was about £1.40 a shot!! and i need two because another one is slightly worse for ware and will end up like that!!

Thats a bit much for a wheel nut mate!

Are they gold plated? :D

If you are removing the wheels often, then to avoid rounding anymore wheel nuts off in the future, get a decent (or half decent) Torque Wrench and tighten the nuts to the specified Torque in the back of the owners manual.

If the nuts are rounding off with little pressure, then I would send them back to the manufacturer and get some replacements.

I've not seen them for a few years but there used to be sockets designed to grip onto the flat of the nut rather than the corners. I used to have a sump plug that had rounded and one of these worked a treat (I got mine from Halfords BTW).

Obviosly these will only work if the nut still has most of the flat faces on it.

Something is very very wrong here!!!!!

Either you are using the Wrong sized sockets, the socket is split and broken, or your wheelnuts are made out of chocolate!!!!
