Rav Cam Belt Failure

Recently I had the unhappy experience of driving in the fast lane of the M4 and suddenly losing all power.

I did manage to pull across onto the Magor services slip road and called the AA who cofirmed that the cam belt had disintegrated.

The car had only done 55,000 miles at the time and the whole episode, including car hire and new water pump cost over £600.

I have written to Toyota to ask for at least some compensation but, despite admitting that it was an 'experience... quite untypical of the normal level of service associated with our vehicle reliability', they are 'unable to agree your request for financial assistance'.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

some cam belt manufacturers stand to pay you some compo if it can be proved that the belt was too young to die .provided it was fitted by a reputable company and you have reciepts and mileage fitted.but they also need to see the belt for diagnosis.
