Just joined a local forum and it uses the same software as this forum but they have a 'shout box' runnung across the top of the forum.

Its like the ticker you get on Sky News and you can post little comments in it and it scrolls across with everyone elses.. its like a little chat/post area and makes a good read when no one is posting.

Can we have one please?

that's be cool!!!! we could host birthday messages, like the teeny boppers music channels, that say stuff like

"I relly luv u blah, wil u get it on?"

And you can post links... its well funny following conversation.

The only worry is that it cant be moderated.. bet the swear filter works on it and it only saves the last 10 shouts.

Its a nice feature that I havent seen before.

Well I have used this feature loads on the CruiseMansfield and its great.. you dont have to be sitting there focusing on a chat room while surfing the forum... you get randon messages going across the top and it makes the forum a little more personal.

as we are running a more recent copy of the software we may not be able to install this.

we used to run shoutbox on LOC ages ago and i took it off as no body used it..

Also the texts scrolling texts can get stupid, or swear words and at the end of the day it could degrade the site. (I said could)

nah, I dont get a penny, charged a std rate, usually 10-12p

Its not a no mate.. I will trial but if i think it puts the credit of TOC down then it will be removed.

BTW i got errors with that cruise site scroller.. I am using firefox

ok Steve, I can do it in PHP, Java or flash (unless you want summut else)

if you want PHP then I can use MD5 for the password

do you want multi admin, or a shared password?

swear filter will be easy to do, I it will be possible to delete the messages

the senders ID will not be visible for security reason so people will have to include their name

What do you mean for security reasons.. it should have your ID!

you wouldnt like hackers to get hold of your mobile number, you can always include it in the message, message lenght is 140 chr

There is no need for fancy programming vmail.

Shoutbox invision board modifications are common and easily available.

Also they do not need to be scrolling text as shown here - http://footy-talk.net/forums/index.php? - it can show the last three shouts with a pop up box linked to show the rest. It isn't on the same software but im sure the coding will be fairly similar Steve?

Vmail, why would people pay to send a text message when they have a keyboard infront of them
