i have recently ( 2 months) bought a RAV4 2.0 GX Auto, 1995 with 90000 miles.

It has developed a knocking especially when manoevering. am told it might be the gearbox / differential which sounds very expensive!! any ideas

The Rav4 is a great motor but as the years creep on, some wear and tear is going to take place :( ,several possible problem areas, the vehicle has four driveshafts,which in turn means 8 C/V joints (constant velocity joints) these can wear out or the rubber boot split around them, then you have the propshaft that can wear and last of all, gearbox or engine mounting problems, need a good inspection on a ramp or pit .

I to own an older rav4 (1996 5dr gx manual 75000) just today on the m20 it jumped out of gear, putting it back in continued to do so, several times. I held it in gear and drove home. My mechanic is coming soon. But any ideas?
