Sorry! Earpl!

Well thats your opinion. But from ur description it seems you have a TT - now if you thought the MX5 was common... lol And don't get me started on how common A4's are. Infact your whole car collection is common!!

Sorry but your being prejudice which is really low.

And sorry Earl!!! Guess I think I should think before I type.

I'm sure your right that that particular version is hard to find, but they all look the same.

Anyway, don't want to get into a slaggin match. You'll be pretty unique with a supercharged Yaris.

Your just not giving the poor MX5 a chance... however I do agree the older generation tend to drive em. But then again I've seen like 3 or 4 T-Sport Yari with old aged pensioners driving - what did the salesman say? Buy this version because it has a 1.5L VVTi engine, pushing 103BHP with a 0-60 time of 9secs - OR - Buy this version because it has nice seats and a black interior.

Rock on!

Just thought id pip into the girly debate, and the winner for girliest car in the world is.....

The Ford StreetKa. No questions. Full Stop.

Yes :yes: however I see loads of guys driving black ones around here, altho we are near the Dagenham Factory so it must kinda stem from there!

Drove home tonight with the window wide open, radio up loud, and the blowers on full heat. Must admit, kinda wish I could have taken the roof off.

Hmmm.. thing is I have plans for the Yaris. The more I mod, the more hassle its going to be later on.

Quote. If you want to prove a point, get this 'manly' car click to see a real manly car. ?

I do seem to think, that it dont matter what car you drive, theres always a woman in one the same somewhere...

I used to have a Volvo 760 turbo estate. Now thats a Mans car!

Then I couldn't get my wife out of it!!. Does this then make if a feminine car?

No exactly.

I also like the MX5. Nearly bought one, but practicality steped in and I just orderd a new YARIS. 1.4D4D in Black. Now thats a Mans car....??? isnt it?

I also got a Silver 1.3CDX, thats the Womans car.............

Sit back and wait for the flack from them there Females.

TOO RIGHT :thumbsup::lol:

I like the MX-5 too - I know it can be described as "girly" but then almost all convertibles are - and it may even be on the shortlist of "My Next Car (realistic list)"

Alan,

I see you got a set of Yaris floor mats for sale?

I was going to get another set from Halfords, the rubbery ones with carpet insets again. Are yours good or better than the Halfords ones.

Will they match my new shinny Black D4d.

RT

Ps ?how much.

Ummm! I don't know!

They're proper Toyota carpet ones. To be honest, in many ways the Halfords ones are probably actually better.... (I'm not a good salesman!)

On the other hand, make me an offer for these ones. It'lll be about 7 quid next day delivery. Basically, I just want these ones away as I only have a small flat and they're taking up space but are far too good (only a small heel mark on the drivers mat - the rest are immculate) to just skip...

Feel free to PM or e-mail me and I'll send you a photo.

Cheers,

A

[/offtopic] :)

Forgot to mention... They came out of a shiny, black, D-4D but a 3 door one...

And again... Could you make some more posts please? I'm trying to pm you! B)

Seems that people have got a little off topic on this one!

Strikes me that if you want an mx5, then get an mx5. All this girlie car/man's car stuff is rubbish in my opinion. Go and drive one, see if you're smitten then make your decision, mate.

Makes sense?

My thoughts exactly mate! My mate has an MX5 and it's loads of fun but I have the same problem as Raytoy, I could barely fit in the driving seat for a quick blast around a car park, there's no way I could drive one more than that! (I'm 6'3" with very long legs!)

Defo not as fast as an MR2 turbo but less insurance and still plenty of power to kick out the back end whenever you feel like it

I used to have the odd dig at my mate for having a girly car but then I bought a Yaris so I'm getting all the comments back again but it's just a laugh, never serious! :D At the end of the day nobody (with a life) cares about the 'gender' of a car as long as it's fun to drive.

Tell me about it! I'm same height and it's a pain in the neck trying to squeeze into some cars! The Yaris is one of the best for me!! I went to the motorshow in june this year, and of about a 100 cars that i sat in, maybe 5 or 6 i was comfortable in! The best being.... Toyota Avensis. It was just the comfiest straight out. Then my Yaris, then the Aston DB9 (Yes - I got on that stand!!!) But for the rest, i just sat with kneees at my elbows!

I'm gonna test drive one hopefully in January time. If I like em I'm buying one. There are also loads of aftermarket parts for the mx5. I'm a smidge under 6ft so I'm hoping I can fit! Apparently the mk1 has more room then the mk2 or mk2.5.

If I do get one I'll need to sell my T-Sport and Fujitsubo exhaust. So if anyones interested just keep your eyes peeled.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys and gals,

I've just signed up for the forum to get some info on the Yaris and stumbled on this topic.

I'm on my 2nd Mx5 now and have had them for about 3 years now and would definitely recommend them. I got my first one when i was about 20 after looking for something sporty to replace my Fiesta - the usual suspects were on the list (Impreza, MR2 Turbo, RX7 etc) but insurance quotes were ludicrous on anything that had bhp. Like most of you guys, I wrote the MX5 off as being a girly car, and not something that really appealed. After getting peed off with car hunting, I decided to test drive pretty much anything and everything, and when MX5s popped up on autotrader for £5k (this was a few years ago) my interest perked.

I found a local specialist (quite a few of them around, and generally better than going to a main dealer) and arranged to have a sniff round his cars and have a long test drive. After an hour or so me prejudices had all vanished, and I realised what a great little car it was - to cut a long story shirt I bought my first one a month later and have been having fun in them over since. The mk1 is great value for money - you'll get a lot of car and a lot of smiles for your money.

My advice? Try one out for size, you might love it or you might hate it, but at least you'll have first-hand experience of it. If you're worried what you'll mates/colleagues will say, I've found an easy solution - put the roof down and take them out for a spin down some windy country lanes, they'll soon be grinning! :D

To bring things full-circle, I've now bought a Yaris SRi as a more practical daily driver. Good as they are, they not designed for lugging loads of stuff around!

Some pics HERE if anyone's interested, and s0cks if you've got any q's then feel free to email me.

Just remember to think if you will fit in one!

I cant fit in them at all! i'm 6ft 2 and 17 stone and its physically impossible!

I'm just over 6'1" and not the smallest of people and have no problems at all in my Eunos, plenty of room for me to grow a couple more inches if needed.....

actually m8 i don't think the mr2 is slower

MR2 definately feels the quicker car....

All this feminine rubbish is a joke, ok it has a reputation as a hairdresser's car, as does the mr2 but normally the people who give the cars the nicknames have not actually driven the cars...

Both cars are great fun in different area's and defiantely have there pro's and con's. I would much rather be driving around in an MR2 but my finances don't allow at the mo, the mx5/eunos is a great rwd fun car with topless abilities that can be had for a lot less. With not much difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 it can also be a very cheap way of having that fun....

my baby...

now whose calling me a woman ???

Listen to this man - he knows the score!

BTW, forget all the sh*te thats spouted about imports being dodgy. Imports and UK cars are made in the same factory on the same production line, and you're not going to find a dead Yakuza in the boot, or have Mr Yacuchi-san turn up on your doorstep to repossess his car. The stuff you've heard was just propaganda put out by Mazda dealers to protect their margins and make you pay for a UK car when you coul've bought an import for £000s less.

In addition to the import/uk bit have spoken to both my local mazda garages to check out prices for this and that and both have quoted exactly the same as it would be to do the job on a uk car which is as it should be. Neither garage car if it's an import or not (hmm maybe some mr t dealers should take note)....

As for insurance I've got a Eunos (therefore import) and my insurance is still only £320 with all mods declared, 4 yrs ncb and 30 yrs old living in cardiff, the nearest quote I got for the MR2 was over 60% more expensive :(

Still cant wait to get the money to get another mr2 though lol
