Its VERY Simple to do...

Theres a plastic screwy thing on the inside near the door hinges that pops out .... then 2 screws u need to get out with a screwdriver. One is near the door /arm rest, the other is in the door handle. Once those 3 are out ... just use brute force to pry the bottom of the door trim from the door (it'll pop out). Once they are all unpopped, just lift the door trim upwards from where its clicked into the top of the door frame.

Ooohhhh... almost forgot, the window winder!! This is a !Removed! to get out. ive got a special tool to get them off courtesy of SnapOn :). U can use a knife to get in there and pop it out also. Just make sure u dont lose the little bit that pops off.

From memory, the control box for the electic windows just pop out as well.... much easier than the window winder. Otherwise it should be pretty much the same.

done this many times!

1) firstly wind the window down it may help.

2) undo screw where the door release handle is.

3) undo screw in the bit where you pull to close the door, and then pull it out.

4) open the door, two other "screws" on the door panel, near the edge of the door nearest the front end of the car. turn them 90 degrees and the screw should pop out from its surrounding plastic bit. then just pull it out.

5) right door is held on by little plastic rivet type things, so all you have to do is grab the door panel at the bottom near where the speaker will go, yank outwards. dont be afraid you wont break anything, give it a good yank.

6) repeat the above step for all around the door.

7) you will notice now that the door is loose but will not fully come off due to the door handle, thats if you have manual windows. to get this off, lie on the floor under the door and look upwards and pull the door panel outwards and locate the winder. you will notice there is a metal clip attach to that and the door, so take this off, it should just pop off. Then lift the door upwards so it comes off, as the door pin and the window frame are still keeping the door panel on, so just lift it upwards

8) voila you have your door panel off.

Fitting New Speakers

==============

9) drill out the old Speakers, they are riveted in so drill it out.

10) make a base plate made of at least 10mm wood, bigger than the actual speaker obviously, roughly the shape of the indent around the speaker.

11) cut the hole in the wood for the speaker.

12) drill 3 holes in the wood to attach it to the door. one in each corner, away from where the speaker will be.

13) using the holes in the wood which is where you will be attaching to door, place the wood in position, make a mark with the drill through each hole so it marks the metal on the door panel, do this for all three holes so you can use this as a guide when you take the wood off.

14) look for the 3 scratchs you made and then drill a hole big enough for the screws you have selected.

15) attach speaker to the wooden base with appropriate screws, try and use smaller ones as these will make sure you dont hit the metal.

16) for extra security/hold, put double sided sticky pads on the back of the wooden base, move into position and screw in place firmly so it is tight to the door.

17) repeat the same procedure for the other holes and door.

What you forgot to mention Breezer, is how to get the %$(ing door back on!! I've just fixed a rattle in my door (cant afford Speakers yet!) due to all that flapping plastic, and followed your very good guide to getting the door off, but what you forgot to mention was that its a :censor: :ffs: :censor: :ffs: to get back on!!! The door lock comes off, the window seal doesn't clip on, the red rivet plug things fall off if you don't line them up right, then they snap if you push too hard, then the door handle falls off it's place and you have to start all over again!!!!

This was probably an exception to the easy-peesy rule, but i still thought it to be a darn pain!

Other than that, it was very easy to do!

(I got the rattle fixed too - bliss!)

P.S.

The door Speakers really are made out of paper!!!!!

They are truly truly shocking. I wouldn't fit them in a metro. If y'all don't believe me/us, have a look at them... they will shock you how terrible they are.

I found when trying to put the door cards back on its alot easier if you remove the small triangle plastic trim that covers the inside of the wing mirror

Just incase you didn't

you put the door on the same way u took it off, but in reverse, lol!!

and it does go back onto the window seal, quite hard, youve gota grab the door panel and try and pull it over seal, whilst pushing at the same time. its a !Removed! but once u get it ul know what to do.

Ay, il know what to do now when i can afford new Speakers! Them rivets look pretty tough, how hard is it to actually drill them out? Or in?!

Not very, they are quite soft... steady hand and 'woomph' straight through.

Any clues to size of drill bit? I ask because my DIY is 'destroy' it yourself, and i'd end up going through the door and out the other side! Can I use the spacer/mount thing that's already there? rather than making an MDF one?

Cant remember mate..

I personally used Toyota Celica Speaker adapters from Halfords..

All i did then was screw the speaker to the adapters and rivet the adapter back to the door..much easier than poching about with mdf..
