Speed Camera Penalties

Got flashed by one of those traffic light ones last night – the lights literally changed as I crossed the line. God I hate driving in London - they're everywhere...

Can't find any decent sites about what the penalty might be. One of my house mates says 3 points, £40 fine and could possibly get done for speeding as well?

Any ideas? :(

if u do get a summons, go to court and tell them it wasnt safe to slam ur brakes on, the road was wet etc etc. i bet u get away with it.....only if u havent got loads of points for speeding already.

good luck, think its 3points and 60 pound fine?

if you were already crossing the line then its unsafe to brake suddenly -

i was pulled over recently for the same thing & both officers who saw me agreed that it wouldn't have been safe for me to slam the brakes on.

but it really depends on if your were speeding mate (don't shoot me for saying that Si  )

but saying it was unsafe to brake will probably work.

Thanks guys.

I don't think I was speeding! There was a car in front so I'm sure I wasn't much over thirty if I was – it could even be a 40mph road actually, I'll check on the way home.

I don't think it would have been safe to stop or I would've, although I guess if I was totally blameless the camera wouldn't have gone off.

It's a bit gutting to get points as I've kept my license clean for seven years. :( I could handle the fine even though I don't feel I was really completely in the wrong...

the cameras are set to go off as soon as the lights go red, what was the weather like? if it was raining then youll definately get away with it, but its 3 points for driving without due care and attention, dunno bout the fine though cos they always seem top be changing

Most of the things you see are sensors, the red light camera's I know of stand separate from the actual traffic light pole and look like a GATSO!

Right, it is a 40mph road so shouldn't be a problem on the speeding front. It was dark and damp but it wasn't raining unfortunately. :(

How long will I have to wait to find out – anyone know?

Jim - they're everywhere in London but not many other places - especially in Kent - which is why I'm not used to them! :crybaby:
