Carb.

Hello, I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I've had good luck with Fiat Spider.com for my toys, so I thought I'd find a Toyota site for My daily drivers. My family and I have 7 Toyotas and I maintain most of them.

My main problem is with my '87 2WD. pickup, 22R. After sitting for apx. 4hrs. in warm weather, the float bowl drains dry and it won't start without starting fluid or a little gas poured into the carb. When cold, the engins hesitates, but when warm, it runs fine. A new fuel pump helped for a day or two. A different carb didn't help at all. A carb kit didn't help either. A different charcoal canister and blowing out the lines to the tank also didn't help. Momentarily unhooking the hose to the power brakes to relieve the suction also didn't help. Thanks for any advice.

Dirty or damaged valve seat(s) combined with a too low float level could be the cause of this.

What carburettor is it?

Cheers, Yves.

Yves, thanks for the reply. It's a two barrel #35302. I don't know the manufacturer. While the engine's running, the fuel level in the float bowl is in the center of the window that's in the side of the bowl. That's where the manual says the level should be. Just incase the valves were carboned up, I tried the "water trick", but it didn't help. I haven't done a compression test lately, so I think that I'll do one soon. thanks again, Thomas
