Camery Backup Lights - Neutral Safety Switch

Auto tranny; backup lights quit; no power to bulbs with tranny in reverse. I assume dirty connections in the switch housing

If I take the neutral safety switch off; can it be opened and the backup light contacts accessed to be cleaned or do I have to replace the switch?

A $125 deal here as the donor tranny's now not saleable as a complete tranny for the boneyard

Heve you tried pulling of the plug and bridging the terminals? If you remove the plug off the switch and bridge the contacts (on the plug not the switch) the reverse lights should light up (make sure ignition is on). If they do come on then suspect a faulty reverse switch. If they don't come on then you have a bad connection/blown fuse or other similar problem.

Any chance of a way to by pass the neutral safety switch? $200+ is a lot to pay when nothing else is wrong but the back up lights.
