Help! Advice On Routing Cables...

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a little bit of help and advice here.

I've only just got round to re-installing my GPS radar/laser detector thing into my new Yaris and the dashboard has gone from being clean and tidy to a Gordian Knot of cables.

The detector is in 3 parts:

1. The screen unit, which should be somewhere that I can read easily (currently velcro'd to the dash behind the steering wheel)

2. The GPS Antenna that has to be somewhere with a clear view of the sky (currently on the top of the dash out of my sight behind the "pod").

3. The Radar/laser detector module that has to have a clear view down the road ahead of the car (currently suckered to the windscreen on the passenger's side, sort of behind the pod)

Here's a piccy:

What I really want to do is hide the cables that run from the control unit down, under the bottom of the dash (so far so good) and then out the passenger cubby and over the dash (not so good) to the detector & GPS units. I'd like it emerge up by the windscreen and double back on itself into the rear of the two units.

I don't really want to have to take the top off the dash as I'm sure its a big job and I'm liable to be left with squeaks & rattles (not good).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

PS It has to be undo-able for when I sell the car!

If you can, run the cable along the front of the windscreen, then pop it down under one of the das speaker covers... it can then go behind the glovebox and come out anywhwre you want!

Why do you need a radar/laser detector in a diesel? :D

Hehe, only kiddin. I would get some cable extensions and do as seveer stated.

Ha ha ha :P Thank you both.

The cables are really long, so I'll give Seveer's suggestion a shot tomorrow night. I didn't even consider doing it like that...

Cheers,

Alan

Unclipping the dash isn't so bad - easiest thing to do is to get someone at Toyota to explain it - not obvious, not not difficult if you know

alan if possible mount the laser and GPS gubbin near the speaker grille on the dash

then make a small incision in it and run the cables down there down the back of the dash

if the cables are long enough then leave them in the center but follow the same principle with the speaker grille as you can poke the wires down the back of the dash plastic between the windscreen

also you can run a wire over the top of the sterring column from behind

and behind that bit of plastic trim under the HU theres a nice sizable space to hold all sorts of gubbins

mine used to be crammed full of stuff

Cheers all! I intended to try it tonight, but I'm not long in from work and am knackered...

I think that the speaker grille is the answer and the cables are plenty long to route round to the steering column.

Thanks again,

Alan
