yaris uses a chain not a belt... both should serve the lifetime of the car... but cats often get changed along with the exhaust...

I cant remember exactly what it it is, but something in the engine, maybe timing belt, gets changed at 60,000 miles if it's a certain model.

Cat Converters need changing only when they fail....This will result in MOT failure on the emmissions tests. There's probably a recommended lifespan quoted for them somewhere, but if you're emmissions are ok then it's not worth bothering with. As far as the cat goes it's a case of 'if it ain't broke then don't fix it.'

And if it is broken and you pass, then scrap the bugger! Have it de-cat!

There was someone in the Starlet forum a while back who had the cat pipe fitted with quick release clamps, like the ones on a mountain bike saddle....so the car was de-catted for most of the year, then it's just a case of clip the cat pipe back on for the MOT !

......well I thought it was clever !
