Just got my First Rav4 Mk3 Auto. The Manual states that the overdrive should be left on all the time. The salesman said the overdrive is very seldom used and he would leave it off. Can anybody advice me what the best proceedure is for use of the overdrive. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at http://www.samarins.com/maintenance/transmain.html#overdrive , it explains for you. I'd leave it on as you get much better mpg.

Thanks for the help, the information was just what I needed. Feel a bit of a ***** Head for asking But I suppose thats what the TOC is hear 4. Have a good Xmas

Hi

I have an auto box on my 2003 RAV and always leave O/D switched on. Its a great box - very smooth and quite.

The only time I switch it off is when going down a steep hill in order to get engine braking or going uphill to stop it from hunting through the gears.

Cheers
