Scraped The T3...

Hi Guys,

I made a very expensive mistake on Tuesday night..left work and was leaving the multi storey car park when I heard a horrible noise and the car jolted..

To cut a long story short I scraped the pass side door on some metal shutters which were pushed to the side of the exit (they are always there and I know it..) and also clipped the rear pass side hubcap and took a chunk out of it. I am not worried about the hub as it's actually not that bad..but this is the damage:

Sorry for the quality, but it has removed the paint and now there is grey metal showing and also the panel has been indented.

Any idea's how much it is gonna cost to sort? The car is only 10 months old and I think I have to get the work done by MrT dont I? I need help on this stuff...I am not claiming on insurance cos I work in motor insurance and know how it works..it'll be cheaper for me to not claim in the long run and I have a huge excess.

A very embarassed Blue

and btw this is the first real scrape I have had in 17 months of driving!

Hmmm... not sure, but i'd guess close to £350. They'll have to get the dent out, and if it's bad enough (can't really see from pics) it may need a new door skin and then there's spraying and labour on top of all that.

I wouldn't take it withing 50 miles of a toyota garage to do it, they'll add at least 10% to the price a good bodyshop would charge. I know a great place in Leeds, but that doesn't help really!

Since you work in insurance, can you find out the names of garages that you send cars to for repairs, because if insurance companies use them, they have to be reputable in some way.

P.S. Sorry to hear about it... cuts me up to hear of damged nice cars!

Get some quotes from body shops and Mr T, also ask if the warranty would be affected if you got it repaired somewhere else, end of the day its only cosmetic and not mechanical so I would have thought you could get it done anywhere?

noooo :crybaby: , oh beautiful Jade.

I have no idea what it would cost in the UK for repairing that, but a good reputable bodyshop would be better than MrT, they specialise in what they do unlike for MrT it's not just one of the things they do.

I agree with T-V-O-R - I always thought cosmetic work wouldn't affect your warranty.... but ask Mr T to be on the safe side....

You havent had much luck recently - what with those idiots keying Jade, the wheelie bin incident and then this.... :group-cuddles:

Anyway I hope its easy and affordable to get sorted - we all have little scrapes from time to time, so dont worry about it

I don't..... I crash in to the back of Ford Ka's and bend the rear doors of a Matiz! My mum's the worst.... twice she has annihilated the rear spoiler of my dada's company cars first an Escort Ghia, then a Carina!

It is true though, once it's done, you will feel awful, but don't worry about it, everybody will have some form of accident/scrape in their driving life, you've done well to get yours out of the way early!

This will sound stupid - but find your local chipsaway agent and give them a call. I had a bad ding in my door and was convinced it would mean a new door skin - to my huge surprise they got the ding out and painted the scratch for less than 100 bucks ...

well i cant realy c from the pics

but it depends on the location as well ie. if its to the back of the door it will have to be faded out onto the rear door/wing

at work our labour is 28 quid an hour plus paint and parts

so at a rough guess i would say 200 250 ish

Yeah I'd agree with sup2. I had a scrape very similar to yours on my old mk2 punto sporting and it cost me 180 at my local garage.

I'd recommend visiting a few local garages and getting some quotes!

I deffinately wouldn't be telling Mr.T... it might invalidate the anti-corrosion warranty.

Get it sorted at a good bodyshop... they should do a good enough job that it won't be possible for Mr.T to notice anything if you are unlucky enough to need the anti-corrosion warranty.

Thanks for the replies guys - I'll have to get my Dad to call around for me next week when I am at work and get a coupla quotes sorted out for me whilst I am at work...I know of a guy who sorted my Dads Fiesta when it got scratched along both sides of it right through to the metal and you cant tell any difference at all but his car is a non metallic bright red colour...

the only thing that worries me is the colour being different if it isnt done by MrT..I am hoping to get a T-Spirit sometime this year and if/when my T3 goes I wouldnt want it being spotted as its metallic paint..

I am probably being daft but do I have any reason to worry?

Mr T? WTF? Toyota?

I had an accident too. I didn't have the door panels on cuz i was installing the Speakers to the doors. Went to buy some gas and WHAM! Wind slammed the door to the gasmachine! Good luck I didn't lose the paintwork, just a mark on the edge of the door.

Sorry to hear you scraped your car. If you take it to a good body shop they should not have too many problems getting the paint match right. Hope you get it sorted soon.

When i went to my toyota garage they directed me to a guy they use with a shed in his back garden. Wonder how many people have invalid anti corroson warranty when they come back with rust. I went to a garage with 30 years experience
